February Fever

February is here, and so is February fever. Yes, spring in the air, which means the mood of romance and love. There is warmth in the air, flowers are blooming, ice is melting, and in general, the environment is wonderful.

Human beings are social animals, hence no matter how or when or by whom, they want to be loved. They want to be cared for, cherished and appreciated. Love makes a heart sing, and puts a smile on the face. Love gives a purpose to life, actually gives energy to live life beautifully. Love understands hearts, connects souls, and creates bonds. Love makes relationships blossom, and gives meaning to existence. The feeling of love, warmth, care, affection, intimacy, faith, trust, passion, promise, commitment and understanding really make life beautiful.

Love needs no specific time to grow or season to express or celebrate it. But February is something special, as Valentine’s Day falls in February. Since ages, February 14 has been marked as a day of love, i.e. Valentine’s Day, commemorating a priest of Rome, St. Valentine. Thanks to him, busy people create the mood and take out a little time to express, share or celebrate love on this special occasion. It is also regarded as lovers’ festival.

The countdown to this festival has already begun. Love messages, quotes, lyrics, poems, sayaris, dedication of love songs, and wallpapers are being shared all over facebook, twitter, and emails. Fresh red roses line flowers shops, gift shops are filled with heart shaped accessories, greeting cards, chocolates, candles, dolls, and perfumes, reflecting that love season has kicked off. And moreover, February-fever has raised the excitement of youngsters. Lovebirds are planning to make the occasion special and memorable.

People celebrate love in different ways: with red roses, chocolates, gifts, hugs and promises. February 7 is celebrated as Rose day, when couples exchange red roses. Red is the color of love and passion, the principal messenger of love. Cupids mark February 8 as Propose day, February 9 as Chocolate day, February 10 as Teddy day, February 11 as Promise day, February 12 as Kiss day, February 13 as Hug day, and last but not least, February 14 as Valentine’s Day. Teenagers and college students seem the most fascinated by these occasions. Upon inquiry, a few of them shared that they would be going for any romantic movie releasing that day, a few for candle-light dinner, some for dance party. Some planned to propose to their loved one, some to go on their first date, whereas some wanted to spend quality time with their beloved.

People define love in their own ways. Sarad Pradhan, media coordinator at Nepal Tourism Board, claims that love is immortal and it has no physical, emotional and mental barrier. Neeru Rajbanshi, VJ at TV Filmy, shares that love for her is a divine feeling, pure and unconditional. Binu Shakya, a dancer and Masters level student at Ratna Rajya Campus, believes love is the most beautiful feeling. She gets butterflies in her stomach even when she gets a simple good morning message from her loved one. Junu Puri, a popular RJ at Radio Audio, was at first confused about how to define love. However, she shared later that love is the oxygen that keeps humans alive. Love gives hope, strength and courage to live life. Jimy Shahi, Salsa Instructor at Tamarind Restro & Bar, says that love is a connection between anything and anyone that bonds the two together.

Obviously, love has no conditions, and no space for selfishness. It is free, it is unconditional, it is divine, it is pure, and it is powerful. Being in love is definitely a wonderful feeling. There is no perfect love, and no perfect relationship. It’s all about how we accept the imperfections that make love and relationship perfect. Love doesn’t see age, race, caste or color, neither does it care about height, eyes, or body. Love is what we feel for someone each and every day, not only in happiness and joy, but in sadness and low moments, even in fear, anger and misunderstandings.

Love is a shy smile, a sweet hello, a soft care, a blind faith and a deep trust. A single smile that makes the heart skip, a single word that makes you melt inside, a simple hug that takes the breath away, a single touch that gives butterflies and makes the whole world seems brighter. Love is simply an amazing emotion that allows any person to consume your whole heart. Love is a journey of two beautiful hearts and passionate souls which are connected by a divine bond. It is a silent commitment which says, “I will be with you forever.”

Though love doesn’t need any specific day or time to celebrate, it’s very necessary to share your feelings with your loved one time and again, and make them feel special. If you haven’t felt February-fever yet, just get up, find a romantic greeting card, write a sweet love poem or song, arrange a red rose and chocolates for the one you love. And the most important thing, don’t forget to say “I love you.”
