Mystery of 'Huey'

Two days have been passed since the discovery of the US military chopper, which went missing in Nepal since May 12 on its way to deliver the humanitarian aid to quake ravaged districts.

There are various speculations at the moment however the exact reason behind the crash of chopper UH-1Y 'Huey' is yet to be ascertained as the experts regard it as a highly sensitive issue.

The Home Ministry refused to talk about reason of the crash citing that the Nepal Army is responsible for the investigation into the matter.


"We don’t have any information. Nepal Army shall probe and come out with the exact details", Spokesperson of Home Ministry Laxmi Prasad Dhakal told on Sunday morning.


Right after discovery of the crashed helicopter, a five-member probe team has been formed by Nepal Army under the leadership of Brigadier general Sudheer Shrestha.

The wreckage of chopper was found crashed in the mountainous northeast of capital, in Ghorthali village development committee (VDC) of Sindhupalchowk district at an elevation of around 11, 200 feet on Friday.

There were 8 persons on board including 6 U.S. marines and two Nepalese soldiers whose charred bodies have been already retrieved from the location.

The Public Relations Directorate of Nepal Army also refused to make any comments on the cause of the crash immediately.

It just informed that the investigation into the matter could take few weeks or even months.
A Nepalese Colonel Pilot Suwarna Bista told, "My preliminary speculation of the reason behind crash is bad weather however nothing can be said right now. We need to wait for the final reports of assessment ".

Also, Nepal Army officials on Friday had hinted about the bad weather and compound terrain in the vicinity, making them difficult for the search operation.

Right after the disappearance of the military chopper, US military officials had said that an Indian helicopter in the air nearby had heard radio chatter about the possible fuel problem from the UH-1Y.

However, no one has responded about the problem currently.

An Army officer requesting not to quote his name informed, "The missing and crash of the US chopper is very sensitive issue, so we are not allowed to speak up anything at the moment, not even personal opinion or judgment".

The missing and crash of US military chopper has also been regarded as mystery by few.
There are also questions over the communication mechanism and devices which could not find any details on locating the helicopter for few days.

The 'Huey" had taken off from Kathmandu's TIA for Charikot, district headquarters of Dolakha at 1:30 pm.
